WHAT IS DUPR?
DUPR is the FREE scoring app we use at Torquay Pickleball Club as suggested by Pickleball Australia and Pickleball Victoria, as part of their Fair Play Policy. (you can read more about DUPR here)
In short, when you play in a DUPR game, it just means the game is SCORED, you still play with a partner but you write the score down at the end of each game. (so it's a good idea to keep yelling out the score to each other before each serve). Then you change partners, (as you usually do in a Round Robin game) and do it again and just write down the scores at the end of each game. That's IT .. simple... easy!
WHY DO YOU WANT ME TO JOIN DUPR?
After the end of each "SCORED" session, we will put your results into the DUPR app and then the *magic* happens! It will give you a "RATING" and that rating number is based on if you won or lost, how much you won or lost by, who you played with and their ranking and lots of other numerical stuff. That RATING NUMBER will help us put you in the correct session, so you play games with other players who have a similar RATING and similar SKILL level. Then you can play with or opposite them in the next DUPR session.
Not every game will be DUPR ...we are STILL going to have some non scored OPEN GAMES .. however.. here is a tip .. the more scored games you play, may equal the better your play should be getting and therefore you may win more games, which means your ranking on DUPR goes UP!
Mind you .. it might only go up by .001 but that's still time for celebration!
On the other hand, some players don't want to play at any SCORED games and we have a few games the will be un-scored.
In February you will see "SCORED" games and these are the games for EVERYONE of ALL LEVELS to attend
HOW DO I JOIN DUPR - it's FREE! (some people have paid thinking they needed to .. you Don't! If it comes up with an advert - go out and back in and bypass the advert DO NOT PAY!)
To join DUPR you need to download the DUPR app (it's free) and register as a DUPR club member of Torquay Pickleball Association Inc, (in Australia).
FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO DO THIS:-
1. Download DUPR app in your app store
2. Select Sign Up
3. Create an Account - (please note when putting in your mobile number, you need to select Australia +6 4XX XXX XXX )
4. Click on Clubs (at the bottom of the screen)
5. In the search box type Torquay Pickleball Association Inc." (in Australia) - our club logo should appear
6. Then click on our green and white logo that says Torquay Pickleball Association Inc.
7. Then click on JOIN club and you will see MY DUPR where you will also see your ID number and this is the page you will see your RATING HISTORY.
If you DO NOT Click on "Join" you will be on DUPR but you will NOT be in Torquay Pickleball Club and your scores and those you played with will NOT be able to get recorded UNTIL you are a member of Torquay Pickleball above - SO PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO PRESS JOIN!

Until you begin playing, it will show NR (no rating) and once you do start playing and your scores get recorded, EXPECT an "INFLATED" score if you win a number of games! It will take you playing a number of games (ie 10 to 20) before your RELIABILITY SCORE (see image below) gets up near 100 - that's when you will get a more accurate of your skill.
So in the meantime, try not to get too worried - or try not to get overly impressed by your FIRST few rating numbers .. DUPR will need 10+ games or more to start to level out and give you a more accurate reading.

It takes long term analysis and averages to gain an accurate ranking.

Q & A related to DUPR that may be of help
Q. If I work full time and can’t attend DUPR SCORED SESSION during the day …how do I get a rating?
A. We are going to be offering SCORED games on Tuesday and Friday evenings as well as over the weekend. There needs to be at least 4 players registering attendance at the session that are on the DUPR system for the game to go ahead.
Q. My DUPR rating doesn't reflect my skill level, what can I do?
A. Practice and attend as many SCORED sessions as you can, therefore your results should reflect your skill as this is a universal objective approach to skill ratings in pickleball across Australia and the world. While no system is 100% perfect, it's the best available to us at this time, as its an app to assist governing bodies with implementing their Fair Play Policies.
Q. Is it necessary to have a DUPR rating to play Pickleball?
A. To play at SCORED sessions YES you will need to have the DUPR app and join Torquay Pickleball Club.
Q. Does this mean I can’t play in my Intermediate session next time, until I get a DUPR rating ?
A. Session at Torquay Pickleball Club will be ALL LEVELS from February onward - so you can attend any SCORED session and the Host will put players as close as they can to each other's DUPR score. Non scored sessions will run as Round Robin and players will play with and against all levels of players..
